A press report revealed a shocking decision from the captain of Al-Nassr and the Portugal national team, Cristiano Ronaldo, following his crisis with the national team coach, Jorge Jesus, and his departure from the camp before the scheduled match against Denmark today (Thursday) in the UEFA Nations League.
The relationship between Ronaldo and Jesus has soured in recent days due to the “Don” sitting on the bench in the last match against Norway. Despite attempts to ease tensions, Ronaldo announced just a short while ago that he was leaving the camp, just hours after Jesus’s press conference in which he confirmed that he would not change his tactical beliefs even for the sake of the team captain.
Ronaldo Decides to Retire from International Football
According to the Portuguese newspaper “O Jogo,” Ronaldo has made an irreversible decision not to represent Portugal anymore, and thus the match against Wales, which took place at the Alvalade Stadium, will be recorded in history as his last match with the Portuguese national team.
Ronaldo’s Statement
Ronaldo issued a statement a short while ago, saying: “Following the press conference of the national team coach, and after a conversation with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, I have decided to leave the national team’s training camp.”
He added: “At the appropriate time, I will reveal to the Portuguese people the true reasons behind my departure from the national team camp, which I have always dedicated myself to serving. It is now time for me to wish good luck to Portugal and all my teammates without exception.”
