خرجت نجمتا منتخب إيران للسيدات عاطفة رمضان زادة وفاطمة باسنددة أخيراً عن صمتهما بعد امتناعهما عن ترديد النشيد الوطني لبلادهما خلال بطولة كأس آسيا للسيدات التي أقيمت في مارس الماضي قبل أن يتقدما بطلب اللجوء في أستراليا.
وأشارت اللاعبتان في مقابلة إعلامية أُجريت معهما إلى أن امتناعهما عن ترديد النشيد الوطني جاء احتجاجاً على القمع الذي تقوم به السلطات في بلادهما ضد المحتجين.
وقالت عاطفة رمضان زادة (34 عاماً): «كنا نريد فقط أن نقف إلى جانب شعبنا. كنت أشعر بالخوف أحياناً، لكنني حاولت فقط أن أفعل ما هو صواب، وأن أقول إنه لا ينبغي قتل أي شخص لمجرد احتجاجه».
وأضافت: «كان من الممكن أن أتعرض لأي شكل من أشكال التعذيب، لكن في تلك اللحظة كان الشيء الوحيد الذي منحني السلام وراحة الضمير هو عدم ترديده. كنت أريد أن أردد النشيد الوطني بفخر ومن أعماق قلبي، لكن بسبب الوضع في إيران لم أستطع حقاً أن أفعل ذلك».
وكانت لاعبات المنتخب قد تعرضن لانتقادات في إيران، ووصفت وسائل الإعلام هناك لاعباته بالخيانة بسبب التزامهن الصمت أثناء عزف النشيد الوطني الإيراني قبيل مباراته الافتتاحية أمام كوريا الجنوبية، التي خسرها في 2 مارس الماضي.
The stars of the Iranian women’s national team, Atefeh Ramazani Zadeh and Fatemeh Pasandideh, have finally broken their silence after refusing to sing their national anthem during the Women’s Asian Cup held last March, before applying for asylum in Australia.
The players indicated in a media interview that their refusal to sing the national anthem was a protest against the repression carried out by the authorities in their country against protesters.
Atefeh Ramazani Zadeh (34 years old) said: “We just wanted to stand by our people. I sometimes felt scared, but I just tried to do what was right and to say that no one should be killed just for protesting.”
She added: “I could have faced any form of torture, but at that moment, the only thing that gave me peace and a clear conscience was not singing it. I wanted to sing the national anthem with pride and from the depths of my heart, but because of the situation in Iran, I really couldn’t do that.”
The players of the national team faced criticism in Iran, with the media there describing them as traitors for their silence during the playing of the Iranian national anthem before their opening match against South Korea, which they lost on March 2.
